ABOUT US

The DGSOM Asylum Clinic is a student-run, faculty-supervised organization at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The Clinic provides pro bono forensic evaluations to asylum seekers and other immigrants and creates opportunities for experiential learning and professional development for medical students and residents. The Clinic works in partnership with Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) by matching asylum cases with clinic-affiliated clinicians.

WHAT WE DO

The DGSOM Asylum Clinic is founded on three pillars:

1. Education: We hold biannual trainings to teach medical students, residents and physicians to conduct forensic medical evaluations for people seeking asylum in the United States

2. Service: We perform forensic medical evaluations in partnership with Physicians for Human Rights and our legal partners, which include the UCLA Law Asylum Clinic and Public Counsel.

3. Advocacy: We work to educate health professionals and the general public about the asylum process and issues affecting the health of refugee and immigrant patients via guest speakers, community programs and other outreach efforts.
